LA PORTE CITY - Rick Duane Harp Sr., 52, of Reed Springs, Mo. formerly of La Porte City, died at home Thursday, Oct 31, 2013, from cancer.

He was born March 31, 1961, in Waterloo, son of Duane R. Sr. and Karen Elaine Harp. He married Debra Stevens on May 1, 1987, in La Porte City.

Mr. Harp worked in construction.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, Jason (Mindy) Smolnik, Tom Smolnik and Rick Jr. (Samantha) Harp, all of Missouri, and Nathan White of Evansdale; a daughter, Amy (Miles) Davis of Missouri; six grandchildren, Jayce and Bentley Smolnik, Sidney, Skylah and Reece Harp, and Kaylee Davis, all of Missouri; his parents of Mount Auburn; two sisters, Wanda of La Porte City and Dawn of Woodward; and two brothers, Kevin of Mount Auburn and Duane Jr. of Gilbertville.

Celebration of Life: 2 p.m. Sunday at the Legion Hall in Mount Auburn, preceded by a private family inurnment in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Photos and stories are welcomed.

Rick was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. His family was very important to him. He also enjoyed creating wooden toys.
