WATERLOO - Kenneth D. Penning, 80, of Waterloo, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from a stroke.

He was born April 6, 1927, in Austinville, son of Klaas H. and Martha S. Schurmann Penning. He married Rosemary Wanchura on Sept. 30, 1950, in Lamont.

Mr. Penning was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 38 years, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, John (Kathy) of Dubuque, Paul (Bobbie) of Evansdale and David (Sandy) of Council Bluffs; two daughters, Jean (Wayne) Johnson of Waterloo and Mary (Bob) Campbell of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Michael Penning, Steven Johnson, Matthew Penning, Wesley Penning, Jerry Campbell, Amanda Penning, Sara Penning and Danielle Penning; four great-grandchildren, Aurora, Cheyenne, Logan and Star Penning; a brother, Keith (Bettye) of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Joan (Melvin) Wilson of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Deloras Olson of Waterloo.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward Catholic Church.
