WATERLOO - George Vernon Saylor, 88, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, died there Sunday, June 18, 2006, of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 13, 1917, in St. Walburg, Canada, son of Clarence and Naomi Armstrong Saylor. He married Beulah Fowler on Nov. 14, 1942, in Kirksville, Mo. She died in 1969. He married Virginia Rager on Feb. 28, 1970, at Christ Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She died in 1993.

Mr. Saylor was raised in Canada and when he was 21 moved to the United States. He spent 40 years with Rath Packing Co., retiring in 1979.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy (George) Koepp of Waterloo; a stepson, James Rager of Arizona; two stepdaughters, Nancy (Ray) Nottnagel of California and Gladen (Henry) Harnisch of Waverly; two grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Bill; a sister, Gertrude Smith; and a stepson, Charles Rager.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until services. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Over the years he enjoyed fishing, horses, country western music and tinkering in his garage.
