CEDAR FALLS -- Coyla Elaine McCann, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Western Home Communities-Martin Center due to complications of a hemorrhagic stroke.

She was born Aug. 25, 1928, in rural Adair County, daughter of Harold and Edith Lauer Boyd. She married Willis D. McCann on Aug. 29, 1948, at Hill of Zion Church, rural Adair County. He died May 25, 2000.

She received her bachelor's degree in 1949 from Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa). She was employed with UNI as a library associate, retiring Sept. 1, 1993, after 29 years of service.

Survived by two sons, David (Linda) of Shell Rock and Douglas (Lisa) of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three daughters, Diane (Donald) Morey of Dayton, Ohio, Donna (Pat) Moothart of Urbandale and Denise (Doug) Matthias of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert), Kathryn (Adam), Rebecca, Kimberly, Andrea, Victoria, Jason, Brandon and Melanie; five great-grandchildren, Patricia, Brianna, Caden, Danica and Gavin; a brother, Landis Boyd; and two sisters, Kathryn Frey and Patricia Czerwinski.

Preceded in death by a brother, Arden Boyd.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Heights Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson's Funeral Service.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
