GILBERTVILLE -- Sister Norbert Marie Schares, SSND, 82, of Mankato, Minn., formerly of Gilbertville, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato.

Hilda Schares was born in 1931 near Gilbertville, daughter of Frank and Josephine Arend Schares.

She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1951 and professed first vows in 1954. She spent her entire ministry as a home service sister and in service to the elderly. Her years of service included 1983 to 1991 at St. Joseph, Cresco.

Survived by three sisters, Florence (Alban) Dittmer and Rosalea (Alfred) Schmelzer, both of Waterloo, and Agnes (Hank) Schnelle of Oregon.

Preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Henrietta Simons, Theodora Breyfogle, Blanche Schmitz, Rita Michels, and two who died in infancy; and five brothers, Norbert, Louis, Jerome, Kenneth and Adam.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday in Good Counsel Chapel. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Good Counsel, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and for an hour before services Monday. Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
