Services for Helen Veronica Gossman, 75, of 314 Johnson St., will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. She died Friday
morning (Sept. 2, 1988) at home of cancer.

She was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Plymouth Rock, daughter of John Walter and Ann Marie Knox Gossman. She married Clodius A. Gossman May 21, 1935, in Plymouth Rock. He died May 19, 1984.

She was a school teacher in the Decorah and Cresco areas and a bookkeeper for the Family Benefit Society for many years.

Survivors include six sons: Gary and Leo, both of Yuma, Ariz., Claude of Readlyn, Ray of Waterloo, Father John Gossman of Cascade, and James of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three daughters: Claudette Hill of Cedar Falls, Sharon Fereday of Waterloo and Leone Simpson of Traer; 25 grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Gossman of Cresco; and three sisters: Florence Matthews and Marjorie Hanlon, both of Cresco, and Loretta Kneeskern of Rochester, Minn.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine, July 3, 1955.

There will be a rosary service at 3 p.m. today by the Senior Citizens and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. today, both at the O'Keefe & Towne-Carter & Waychoff Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Memorials may be given in her name to the church or to Columbus High School.
