LA PORTE CITY - Thelma Irene Anton, 96, of La Porte City, died Friday, January 12, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

She was born May 8, 1910, in Dysart, daughter of William Leroy and Elizabeth Augusta Huppert Palmer. She married Irving H. Anton on December 21, 1935, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

She was a 1927 graduate of La Porte City High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught for seven years in area rural schools and in La Porte City. She also farmed with her husband for many years.

She was past president of Order of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Women.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Larry I. (Judy) and Dave P. (Theresa), both of La Porte City; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Palmer of Dysart; a sister, LaVaun (Earl) Raub of Dysart; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Palmer of Dysart.

Preceded in death by a grandson; five brothers, Verian, Ted, Albert, Clifford and Dale Palmer; and two sisters, Mae Kahn and Ruth Brandt.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
