LA PORTE CITY - Chad Richard Bucknell, 29, of La Porte City, formerly of Jesup, died along with his 4-year-old daughter, Hailey Rae Bucknell, on Sunday, June 26, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Scales Mound, Jo Daviess County, Ill.

He was born March 22, 1976, in Waterloo, son of Richard Joseph Bucknell and Kathy Kay Gartner Bucknell. He married Jamie Lynn Hendershot on Sept. 22, 2001, in La Porte City,

Mr. Bucknell graduated from Jesup High School in 1994, then attended Hawkeye Community College, Waterloo. He had worked at Spahn & Rose Lumber Co., Jesup; Waterloo Service Co., Waterloo; and currently was employed at LDS (Livestock Dispatch Service)/ Hendershot Trucking, La Porte City, as a dispatcher and mechanic. He was formerly a member of the Jesup Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sydney Lynn Bucknell at home; his parents of Jesup; two brothers, Brian (Amy) Bucknell of Cedar Falls and Jared Bucknell of Jesup; paternal grandmother, Zella Ackerman of Waterloo; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Elayne Gartner of Warren, Ill.

Preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Leon J. Bucknell; and paternal step-grandfather, Larry Ackerman.

Join services: 11 a.m. Friday at Jesup High School North Gymnasium, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. Thursday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and before services Friday at the school.

A memorial fund has been established, and accounts have been established at Farmers State Bank in Jesup and Cedar Valley Bank & Trust in La Porte City.

2 Killed in 2-Car Galena Accident

Two people died in a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon northeast of Galena, authorities said. Chad Bucknell, 29, LaPorte City, Iowa, and an unidentified 4-year-old passenger in his car were killed in a collision around 3:52 p.m. at the intersection of Stage Coach Trail and Elizabeth-Scales Mound Round, according to the Illinois State Police. A passenger in the Bucknell car, Jamie Bucknell, LaPorte City, Iowa, was taken with internal injuries to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill., then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Jamie Bucknell's condition was not released. A two-year old passenger was listed in fair condition Monday.
