WATERLOO — Edward T. Murphy, 81, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Allen Hospital of heart failure.

He was born Jan. 24, 1924, near New Hampton, son of Thomas and Mayme Kelly Murphy. He married Leona Susanna Gilbert on June 20,1950, at SL Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton.

Mr. Murphy was employed with Rath Packing Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He was a volunteer with the Red Cross, Meals On Wheels, Boy Scouts, St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, traveling with family, fishing, hunting, camping and good friendships.

Survivors include five sons: John (Deb) of Chandler, Ariz., Pat (Bev) and Joe (Maria), both of Waterloo, Mike (Lynn) of Lansing, and Jim (Paula) Murphy of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Jennie Leake, Scot Murphy, Eric Murphy, Lisa Murphy, Katie Murphy, Allison Murphy and Jack Ryan Murphy; a great-grandson, E.J. Leake; and a sister, Margaret Mennenga of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary and Alice Murphy; and a brother, Ray.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace School Chapel, East Fourth Street, with entombment in the Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty- Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 6 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Queen of Peace School, Cedar Valley Hospice or the American Heart Association.
