[Waterloo Daily Courier, Thursday, December 26, 1907, Waterloo, Iowa]

Word has just been received in Waterloo of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Shaffer, which occurred at Pasadena, Calif., on Sunday, Dec. 22. Mrs. Shaffer will be well remembered by many people of Waterloo, especially the older residents, her husband, A. D. Shaffer, and herself having been pioneers of this county. The deceased would have been 85 years of age had she lived until April 13, next.

Mr. Shaffer died here in the early '80s. He was at one time landlord of the old New York house and for a number of years Mrs. Shaffer resided on Washington Street. She went to California to make her home with a daughter, Mrs. Dr. Middleditch. Two sons, Will and Ed., and a daughter, Mrs. Kate Cooper, the last two named being residents of Denver, Colo., survive.

Her son, Edward Shaffer, left Denver late Monday for the remains and will bring them to Waterloo for burial. Her daugher, Mrs. G. H. Cooper, of Denver, also son, W. C. Shaffer, of Evansdale, ind., will meet him at the Irving house in this city. Funeral notice later.
