WATERLOO - Murray L. Gallaher, 81, of Waterloo, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Allen Hospital, from complications of a stroke.

He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Brandon, son of Murray and Lyle Burroughs Gallaher. He married Beverly Christensen at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, on May 23, 1951; she died July 4, 1983. He married Gloria Fortier Orton on July 29, 1989, in Waterloo.

Mr. Gallaher graduated from Van Horne High School in 1950 and received an associate’s degree in bookkeeping from AIC, Cedar Falls, in 1988. He served in the U.S. Navy as a firefighter instructor. He owned and operated Gallaher's Body Shop and Station, Vinton, for many years. After moving to Waterloo he was a bookkeeper for Eastern IA Supply. He was member of Cedar Valley Community Church; Vinton Lions Club, where he was the secretary/treasurer for several years; belonged to the Vinton Golf and Country Club; was a Boy Scout troop leader; member of the Waterloo American Legion; and secretary/ treasurer for Waterloo Bowling Association Senior Stars.

Survived by his wife; a stepdaughter, Denise Orton of Texas; a stepgranddaughter, Alasha Dawn "Cupcake" Orton of Texas; a sister, Jayne (Robert) Lenehan of Denver; a foster brother, R.C. (Beverly) Lyons of St. Charles; a foster brother, Donald (Janice) Lyons of Dysart; a foster sister, Mary (Peter) Oakley of Camdenton, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by a son, Steven Lee.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Valley Community Church, preceded by an hour of visitation. Military rites will be held. Locke Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Murray loved to golf and fish.
