WASHBURN -Charles E. Rokes, 71, of Washburn, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of COPD/diabetes.

He was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Pipestone, Minn., son of Ernest and Charmaine Carney Rokes. He married Sharon Jahde on Oct. 26, 1963, in Le Mars.

Mr. Rokes worked for Spencer Construction for six years, then was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 28 years, retiring in 1994. Following retirement, he worked part time for six years at Eagle Ottawa Tannery.

Survived by his wife; a son, Dennis of Waterloo; a daughter, Julie (Jeff) Evans of Redfield; three grandchildren, Michael, Gabriela and Dalton Rokes; a sister, Barb (Bob) Sorensen of Aurelia; a brother, Dave (Carmie) of Russell; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Samantha; and a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Tom Rassel.

Family-directed memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Washburn, with inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends after the service. There will be no visitation. La Porte City Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the church, 140 First St., Washburn 50702.

Chuck loved to fish, hunt and work in his yard. He loved his family.
