CEDAR FALLS - William A. "Bill" Shining, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Minneapolis, son of Herbert and Dorothy Streeter Shining. He married Mary Catherine Deviney on Dec. 29, 1951, at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Shining was a 1948 graduate of Waterloo East High School. He was a lifelong farmer in Black Hawk County.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathleen (David) Latta of Waterloo and Julie (Mitch) Craun of Sergeant Bluff; four grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth Latta, and Brian and Jamie Craun; a brother, H. Streeter (Barbara) Shining of Rapid City, S.D.; six nieces and nephews, Christopher and Stewart Shining, James Horowitz, Jennifer Woods, Kathryn Hill and Rebecca Rattigan .

Preceded in death by two sons, Thomas in infancy and Michael; and a sister, Marilyn Shining.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo. A family committal service will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to Sartori Memorial Hospital or Denver Public Library, Denver.
