WATERLOO - Mary Joann Rhoads, 51, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1957, in Waterloo, daughter of Verlin and Dorothy Bird Crook. She married James Rhoads on Oct. 6, 1978, in Cedar Falls.

She was a graduate of Waterloo West High School and worked for many years at the Home Shopping Network and was self-employed.

Survived by her husband; her parents, Verlin and Dorothy Crook of Waterloo; three brothers, David (Linda) Crook, Steven Crook and Dan (Diana) Crook, all of Waterloo; two nieces, Katrina and Angie; and her dog, Sammy.

Preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; a nephew, Brian; and her father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Colleen Rhoads.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls.
