Marlys McCunniff was born June 3, 1912, in Grundy Center, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Meyers) Huyck. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1932. On November 24, 1932, she was united in marriage to Manford "Mac" McCunniff in Chicago, IL. He died September 28, 1984. She was employed at the University of Northern Iowa as supervisor of the Registrars Office for 29 years, retiring in 1978. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Cedar Falls Chapter #78 O.E.S., member of the White Shrine, Cedar Falls Women's Club and Cedar Falls Historical Society.

Marlys is survived by her sons, Monte Joe (Sonia) and Merrill Jay (CJ), both of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

Marlys died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the Western Home Communities-Martin Center in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Exene Huyck, Ferrol Coffman and Helen Bienfang and brother, Harlan Huyck.
