WATERLOO -- Thomas Joseph Cheney, 64, of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center.
He was born June 3, 1949, in Marshalltown, son of William and Mercedes Murphy Cheney. In June 1968 he married Christine Nus at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.
Mr. Cheney attended Oelwein High School, Oelwein, and later graduated from Rochester Community College, Rochester, Minn. He was employed over the years at Chicago Northwestern Railroad, John Deere, Krensky’s and Tyson’s.
Survived by a daughter, Jody Lynn Cheney of Mason City; a son, Tod Michael of Oelwein; three grandchildren, Alyssa Cheney, Matthew Bohl and Taylor Bohl, all of Mason City; six great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Rylee, Makiah, Kylee, Kiara and Khloe; two sisters, Judy (Dale) Recker of Arlington and Mary Dawn (Steve) Peterson of Waterloo; five nephews, Jody, Jamie, Scott, Brian and Steven;an aunt, Charlene Murphy of Algona; and two cousins, Lynn and Kevin.
Preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; and an infant brother.
Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Oelwein. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
