WATERLOO - Mary Evelyn Leaman, 90, of Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center, died there Friday, June 23, 2006, of natural causes.

She was born April 7, 1916, in Spirit Lake, daughter of Benjamin and Lillian Belle Thompson Skalsky. She married Percy George Leaman on Sept. 20, 1935, in Preston, Minn. He died Dec. 8, 1998.

Mrs. Leaman was a housekeeper and provided child care for the Elaine Mast family for 24 years until 1993.

Survived by a son, Walter P. (Pauline) of Cedar Falls; a son-in-law, Dale (Carolyn) Hackwell of Jesup; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Jimbo) Hoppock of Bartlesville, Okla., Cheri (Doug) Firgard of Hudson, Pamela (Corey) Williams of Evansdale and Dale Hackwell Jr. of Washburn; a stepgranddaughter, Debra (David) Jacobs of Winthrop; 10 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandson; a brother, Benjamin Jr. (Ellen) Skalsky of Waterloo; and three sisters, Annie Bell Skalsky, JoAnn Buls and Betty Essmann, all Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Percy Eugene "Butch" Leaman; a daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Belle Hackwell; and five sisters, Phatima Renner, Francis Pond, Christina Skalsky, Nellie Smith and Delia Skalsky.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A memorial fund will be established.
