Many See Couple as Victims of Age

Neighbors considered Goldie and Robert Huntach "nice, quiet everyday people" who loved to sit in their backyard glider swing during the summer and chat with children."

They were found murdered Monday in their home at 311W. 10th St. Neighbors Tuesday reflected on the case. Some see the couple as victims of a neighborhood where crime is increasing. To others, they are seen as victims of age, which makes them vulnerable to the younger and the greedy.

The Huntbachs failed to answer the door when a former neighbor and close friend tried to arouse them Monday morning. The friend called police, who found Huntbach, 85, lying in the living room and Mrs. Huntbach, 77, upstairs on the hallway floor. Both died of gunshot wounds to the head.

Police said Tuesday the time of death has not yet been determined, although the Huntbachs last talked to family members Saturday. Police said no forced entry has been determined, but robbery was a motive in the shootings. One source said the home had been ransacked.
