DEATH BLOW CUTS OFF KIND DEED

REFSNIDER LAD WAS AFTER BONES FOR HIS DOG

When Struck by Auto That Inflicted Fatal injuries.

Eugene William Refsnider, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Refanider, was on the way to the home of his aunt, Mrs. J. B. Green, 620 Randolph Street, to get some bones for his dog "Flip" when he was struck and run over Thursday evening by an auto and received the injuries about his head which resulted in death at his home, 726 Randolph Street, at 7:55 last evening.

The boy was deeply attached to his dog; in fact, to all other dogs and many a stray animal was fed by him. He was also very fond of flowers, had shown an unusual talent for drawing and painting for his years, and was a child who, thru many kindly acts and a lovable disposition had greatly endeared himself to all his friends and neighbors. The fact that he is the only child makes the parents feel the loss all the more keenly.

Born on May 11, 1908, at Clarion, Ia., Eugene came with his parents to this city four years ago. He was entered on the cradle roll of Westminster Presbyterian Sunday School before he was a year old and was always a faithful attendant there. The effect of his early Christian training was manifested after he was hurt. Regaining consciousness, at one time, he was suffering intense pain in his head, but he bore it with great fortitude and did not complain.

Besides his parents, the lad is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Ross, of Oelwein, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Refsnider of this city. Uncles and aunts are: W. H. Ross, Mrs. J. B. Green, and Mrs. W. H. Howrey, all of this city; Mrs. L. L. Ostrander of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. W. Blanton and Earl Ross, both of Oelwein. There are also many other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 3:00, with Rev. W. B. Sandford in charge, and burial will take place in Elmwood.
