WATERLOO — John Delbert Habbena, 64, of Daytona Beach, Fla. , formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at the University of Florida Hospital as the result of a motorcycle accident.

He was born Aug 7, 1949, in Little Rock, son of John Lee and Doris Whitten Habbena. He was married to Sandra K. Hinton for 25 years.

He attended Waterloo and Cedar Falls schools. Mr. Habbena worked for Wonder Bread and John Deere Tractor Works until his retirement.

Survived by Sandra Hanegan of Minnesota; his mother of South Dakota; a sister, Patricia (Steve) Olson of South Dakota; a son, Micheal of New Orleans; two daughters, Rhonda (Monte Apfel) Habbena of Waterloo and Sharre (Harvey) Spooner of Minnesota; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nephews; two stepgrandchildren; and many extended family and friends from Iowa to Florida.

Preceded in death by his father.

Celebration of life service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at United Auto Workers Local 838 Union Hall, 2615 Washington Ave., Waterloo.

John recently moved to sunny Florida to enjoy his retirement doing what he loved the most, discovering new destinations, making new friends and capturing beautiful scenery on his daily motorcycle rides.
