WATERLOO - Marvelle A. Nation Simmons, 82, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Sumner, daughter of Jacob and Phoebe McVey Diedrich. On June 6, 1948, she married Ross Nation. He died March 22, 1971. She married Lloyd Simmons on July 21, 1979. He died Dec. 25, 1995.
Mrs. Simmons graduated from high school in Sumner in 1941. She worked for 26 years as a sales clerk at Lederman#'s clothing store in Evansdale. She was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church, and since high school enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She was also a Blue Star Mother, and was active in PTA.
Survivors include four daughters, Connie (Don) Tiffany and Nancy (Rob) Foster, both of Cedar Falls, Sandra (Preston) Davis and Mary Wilson (Mark Toppin), both of Waterloo; a brother, Henry (Lucile) Diedrich of Moline, Ill.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Darwin and Larry Simmons, both of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Lori Gleason of Waterloo; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Peterman; a brother, Leonard Diedrich; and a granddaughter, Heather.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Linden United Methodist Church, Waterloo, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer. Public visitation 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.
