DUNKERTON — Larry J. Delagardelle, 67, of rural Dunkerton, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, of cancer.

He was born Sept. 26, 1945, in Waterloo, son of Julius and Kathryn Weber Delagardelle. On Oct. 25, 1980, he married Jacklyn Kay Goodrich.

Mr. Delagardelle graduated from Don Bosco High School in 1963 and went to work at John Deere Tractor Works, retiring in 2002 after 39 years there. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years in the 404 Signal Co. during the Vietnam War. He farmed and was a breeder of purebred Simmental Cattle. He served on the Black Hawk County Extension Council; was a 4-H leader; was a member of the Iowa Cattlemen Association; was a board director for the Iowa Simmental Board; and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church (Barclay) serving on the parish council and a trustee of the cemetery.

Survived by his wife; a son, Dr. M. Shay (Lani) O’Mara of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Jessica (Dan Giesinger) O’Mara of Des Moines, Melissa “Missy” (Nathan) Sanow of Gilbert and Nellie O’Mara of Mason City; three granddaughters, Katherine, Elizabeth and Lia; his father of Gilbertville; six sisters, Connie (Bill) Malvern, Diane (Jim) Frost and Sandy (Gene) Etringer, all of Waterloo, Janie (Charlie) Laipple of Cedar Falls, Judy (Larry) Elling of Janesville and Deb (Mark) Thome of Gilbertville; and a brother, Rick (Pam) of Grundy Center.

Preceded in death by his mother; and a brother, John.

Services: 9 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, with burial in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery – Barclay, rural Dunkerton. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville. Visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a 6 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Don Bosco System.
