WATERLOO — Robert James Walters, 78, of Waterloo, died Friday, Sept. 6, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1935, in Armstrong, son of Robert F. and Francis Marshall Walters. On April 17, 1954, he married Barbara Van Wey in Greene.

Mr. Walters received his education in the Armstrong and Waterloo schools, then began working with his father digging tile and operating a junk business. He did over-the-road trucking and owned and operated Bob Walters and Son Trucking Co.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Bill (Angie) Van Wey of Elk Run Heights and Robert E. (Teresa) Walters of Waterloo; a daughter, Kelly Jo (Larry) of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bruce (Carol) of Waterloo; and a sister, Darla (Bill) Romer of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Lyn Walters; three sisters, Francis, Janet and Patricia; and a brother, Larry.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (note correct day) at the chapel.

In his free time Robert enjoyed being outdoors camping, fishing, racing and flying and spending time with his family and friends.
