WATERLOO — Dennis LeRoy Duggan, 68, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born July 27, 1945, in Waterloo, son of Roy and Boots Duggan. He was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired as assistant fire chief at Waterloo Fire Rescue in August 2000 after a 30-year career.

Survived by his wife, Cheryel; two sons, Sean (Kris) and Luke; three daughters, Angela (Todd) Gray, Jennifer (Jason) Caslavka and Erin (Christian) Petersen; four stepdaughters, Kate (Nate) Winston, Megan (Greg) Stevenson, Haley Stevenson and Kelly Stevenson; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Sue (Dwight) Dehl; a brother, Desi (Laara); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sally; a brother-in-law. Ray Weber; and a nephew, MacKenzie Dehl.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday, all at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Church-Communication Fund or Cedar Valley Hospice.

As a husband, brother, father, friend, coach, colleague and proud Irishman, Denny brought love and laughter to all who were fortunate to share in his amazing appreciation of life.
