Frank was born March 9, 1887 in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Ann (Lawrence) Mathes. He married Pearl Bickner June 6, 1908 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She preceded him in death November 27, 1940. He married Alvilda Luders March 12, 1945, in Cedar Falls. Frank died Tuesday morning September 28, 1976, at Windsor Care Center at the age of 89.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters: Mrs Mildred Smith of Cedar Falls, Mrs Clyde (Esther) Cook of Cedar Falls, Mrs Richard (Phyllis) Beaumont of Waterloo and Mrs Paul (Frances) Sorenson of Cedar Falls; three step-sons: Albert Luders of Cedar Falls, Harold Luders of New Hartford and Virgil Luders of Mesa, Arizona; one step-daughter: Mrs Virgil (Mary) Johnson of Waverly, 27 grand-children, 52 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and four brothers.
