CEDAR FALLS — LaVern J. Fratzke, 75, of 808 E. Dunkerton Road, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 1990, at Sartori Memorial Hospital from complications of pneumonia.

He was born May 7, 1915, near Jesup, son of Julius and Martha Krueger Fratzke. He married Mary Ziegler on Nov. 26, 1936 in Waterloo.

Mr. Fratzke had been employed with C.W. Shirey Co., Rath Packing Co. and Deere & Co. He later farmed north of Cedar Falls and was employed as a maintenance engineer with Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, retiring in 1982. He founded the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Chapter 145 of Mended Hearts Inc. and was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Joanne Melberg of Janesville; three sons, Richard and William, both of Waterloo, and John of Papillion, Neb.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Susong of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo, under the auspices of Ascension Lutheran Church, with burial at a later date. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at O'Keefe & Towne-Grarup & Waychoff Funeral Home, Waterloo, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
