LA PORTE CITY - Richard E. DeNeut, 82, of La Porte City, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born May 20, 1923, in Evelyth, Minn., son of Clair W. and Sophie Gleinke DeNeut. He married Donna Fosse.

Mr. DeNeut was a 1941 graduate of La Porte City High School. He later received his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, and was employed for John Deere for 25 years as a general supervisor in the Component Works Department, retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Judith (Jim) Brower of Joliet, Ill., Lisa (Matt) Wyatt of Minneapolis and Vicci (Bob) Metcalf of La Porte City; a son, Steven (Melissa) of Joliet; grandchildren, Jack DeNeut and Patrick Schrantz, Katherine, Daniel and Andrew Brower, Uriah, Mason and Tyler DeNeut, Mike DeNeut, Aana and Mark DeNeut, Ann Wyatt and Mitchell Metcalf; great-grandchildren, Bridget DeNeut and J.R. DeNeut; two brothers, Jack (Juanita) and Jean (Betty); and a sister, Merle Carlisle.

Preceded in death by two sons, Richard E. Jr. and Michael; and a daughter, Susan DeNeut.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6 p.m. vigil service. Military rites will be conducted by Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard along with La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post 207 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3983.

Memorials may be directed toward the family.
