Wayne Shaw, 86, of Grundy Center, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born May 18, 1919, in Seymour, son of Boyd and Grace Jackson Shaw. He married Marjorie Call in 1941, and she died March 21, 1973. He married Kathryn Sparenborn July 6, 1974.

He graduated from Teachers College High School, Cedar Falls, in 1937 and then worked in a service station-garage and later purchased the business. Mr. Shaw later moved to Minneapolis where he worked in a defense plant, then served in the U.S. Army Engineers in the Philippine Islands, and then worked for S&S Firestone, Cedar Falls and New Hampton, until 1952, when they moved to Grundy Center where he bought the Firestone business.

In 1964 he sold the business and became sales manager for Grundy County R.E.C. He retired from R.E.C. in 1981 and was a part-time real estate salesman for Grundy Real-Estate until 1989.

Survived by his wife; two sons, David (Barbara) of Stillwater, Minn., and Don (Valerie) of Platteville, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Merrill (Delilah) of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and John of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Berger of Vinton; and two stepchildren, Robert Sparenborg of Grundy Center and Nancy (Gary) Steinfeldt of Eldora.

Preceded in death by a son, Richard; and a brother, Russell.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Grundy Center, with burial at 1 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Grundy Center. Military honors will be conducted by Grundy Center American Legion Post 349 and AMVETS Post 17. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
