Funeral services will be at Payne A.M. E. Memorial Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday for Louis Homer Franklin, 72, of 610 Greenwood St., who died at St. Francis Hospital Friday of complications incident to his age. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories.

Mr. Franklin had been a resident of Waterloo for 34 years. He had been employed at the Rath Packing Co. from 1936 until he retired in 1952.

He was born in Charleston. Ark. June 15, 1898. He moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1912. He married Zelma May Calhoun on Aug. 5, 1916, at Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Waterloo in 1936.

Mr. Franklin was a member of the board of trustees, the board of stewards and chairman of the finance committee at Payne A. M. E. Church. His fraternal memberships consisted of the A. G. Clark Consistory No. 68 and of Bashir Temple No. 156. He was the inspector general of the Knights Templar and was a 33rd degree Mason. Mr. Franklin was Commander of the Royal Arch Chapter and of the Commandery of the Masons at Kansas City, Kan.

He was an accomplished musician. He played the trombone with the Shrine Marching band and had played with several dance bands in Kansas City.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zelma Franklin, 610 Glenwood St.; one daughter, Mrs. Hughes Clayton of Jackson, Miss.; one son, Floyd K. Franklin of Detroit; one brother, C. E. Franklin and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Ken, both of Kansas City, Kan; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
