EVANSDALE — Mary V. Garthoff, 74, of Evansdale, died Thursday, Aug. 22, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

She was born March 17, 1939, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., daughter of Thomas and Lucille Cota Panka. She married Robert F. Hall on July 3, 1959, in Waterloo. He died Aug. 6, 1966. She married Jack Garthoff on Dec. 9, 1967 in Galena, Ill. He died March 26, 1996.

Mary graduated from La Crosse Logan High School in La Crosse, Wis., and was a homemaker.

Survived by a son, Danial Hall of Evansdale; five daughters, Danice (Chris) Borglum of Waverly, Trisha Hall of Ione, Calif., Pamela (Jim) Smith of Cedar Falls, Teresa (Kenny) Reisner of Oelwein and Tamara Garthoff of Evansdale; a brother, Bobby Panka of Texas; three sisters, E.M. Panka of O’Fallon, Ill., Elizabeth (Ray) Will of Texas, and Bonnie Schweiger, also of O’Fallon; 14 grandchildren, Nicole Hall, Lystishya (Danielle) Borglum, Brandee Borglum, Tanner Borglum, Summer Borglum, Kristyn Borglum, Trevor Hoffman, Shelby Smith, Hunter Reisner, Cooper Reisner, Kristopher Garthoff, Storm Hall, Paige and Andrea Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Berlyn, Christian and Kherrigan.

Preceded in death by a son, Nicholas J. Hall; and a brother, Thomas Panka.

Services: will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
