WATERLOO - Richard W. Orvis, 59, of 510 Boston Ave died at home Tuesday, Feb. 6, 1996, of lung cancer.

He was born March 15, 1936, in Waterloo, son of Robert W. and Lillian Baum Orvis. He married Diane A. DeRaad on May 23, 1981, in Le Mars.

Mr. Orvis was employed by Control-o-fax for 28 years, retiring in 1991. He served with the U S Marines during the Korean War.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Keith of Waterloo and Kevin of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Becky Orvis of Waterloo and Dawn Orvis of Rock Island, Ill.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; two stepsons, Tim Dempster of Lombard, Ill., and Jeremy Dempster of Copley, Ohio; his father of Waterloo and a brother, Robert D. of Burleson, Texas.

Preceded in death by his mother.

Services; 10:30 a.m/Saturday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church with burial Poyner Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kearns Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
