FORMER WATERLOO BOY IS BURIED

ARCHIE B. CARMICHAEL DIED YESTERDAY MORNING

Dive From High Bridge Into Shallow Water Proves Fatal

Waterloo fiends were shocked to hear of the death of Archie B. Carmichael which occurred at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines yesterday morning as the result of a broken neck sustained Sunday by diving into shallow water.

The message was received in Waterloo yesterday by Mrs. R. Clarence Carmichael, who came from Des Moines Friday to visit her mother, Mrs. E. J. McKee, in Cedar Falls and her husband's cousin, Mrs. O. J. Conery, 1920 Jefferson Street, Waterloo.

The body was brought to Waterloo this afternoon and the funeral was conducted from the O. J. Conery home at 3:30 by Rev. H. G. Beeman of the Walnut Street Baptist Church. Burial was in the family lot in Fairview Cemetery.

The accident which caused the death of this well known Waterloo boy occurred Sunday evening on the Racoon River, near Valley Junction, at which place a family party had spent the day. The young man dived from the top of Valley Junction bridge head foremost into the river and as the water was less than three feet deep at that point his head struck the bottom and his neck was broken.

He was taken to the hospital in Des Moines but lived only until morning. Charles Carmichael of Waterloo was notified of his death and went to Des Moines yesterday afternoon to bring the body home.

With the young man in the party were his father, Peter Carmichael, and two sisters, Carrie and Mabel, and his brother, R. Clarence Carmichael, and one or two other friends.

Deceased was born in Waterloo October 4, 1884, and would have been twenty-six at his next birthday. He lived in this city until a few years ago, when he spent a few years with his father in Colorado. He went to Des Moines a year ago and had been employed as a teamster with the Queal Lumber Company. His father and two sisters made their home with him. The mother and one sister died years ago.

The surviving relatives are the father, Peter Carmichael; two brothers, R. Clarence, who is employed as conductor on the Chicago Great Western, with head quarters in Des Moines; Charles, who is a driver for the American Express Company, and two sisters, Carrie and Mabel, Des Moines.

Many friends will sympathize with the relatives in their sad bereavement.
