[Waterloo Daily Courier, Monday, April 19, 1937]

Mrs. Herbert M. Reed. 75, member of an early-day Waterloo family, died early Monday morning at 535 Sixteenth Avenue north, S Petersburg, Fla. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Reed have spent their winters in Florida, and this year they left Waterloo Jan. 8. Altho Mrs. Reed had been in poor health for several years, her recent illness was short and death came unexpectedly. With her when she died were her husband, and their two children. Mrs. Ruth Reed Colegrove and Carlton Reed, both of Bronxville, N. Y.

Born Clara Weatherwax, daughter of A. Theodore and Martha (Albright) Weatherwax, of Olcott N. Y., she came to Waterloo in 1866 at the age of 4 years. Her father was engaged in the grocer business here, and took a leading part in early civic and religious affairs.

She graduated with the first class of Waterloo East High School, and was married to Herbert M. Reed April 22, 1890. They moved to Sioux City, where Mr. Reed was engaged in the wholesale grocery business, but returned to Waterloo two years later and built a residence at 519 Third Street East which has been their home since that time.

Mrs. Reed was a past president of the Waterloo Woman's Club, and had recently been elected an honorary member. She was also active in social welfare work, a former member of the Universalist church, former member of P. E. O. and of the M. B. Needlework club.

Surviving besides the husband and two children are three grandchildren: Reed Colegrove, Helen Colegrove and Teddy Redd, all of Bronxville, N. Y., and a niece, Mrs. C. N. Shane, 1207 Independence Avenue.

A brother, Herbert Weatherwax, who for many years was a business man in Waterloo, died in 1926.

Definite funeral arrangements for Mrs. Reed have not been made, but the body will be cremated in Florida and the ashes later brought to Waterloo for commitment.
