John Bantz, one of the pioneer settlers of Mt. Vernon Township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Moore, at 9:30 Tuesday night. The cause, of death was rheumatism with which decedent had been afflicted for the past twenty-five years.

Mr. Bantz was born in Virginia Feb. 18, 1828 he being, therefore, 73 years, old at the time of hls death. When he was about five years of age the family moved to Roft County, Ohio, and in 1868 he settled in Mt. Vernon Township, having lived there since.

He was a man who was upright in conduct and bore the esteem of all hls neighbors.

The funeral services were held this forenoon, the pall bearers being: Alfred Henry, Conrad Brandes, Joe Brown, Henry Gould, Fred Timeon and James Banfield.
