[Waterloo Courier, Wednesday, April 15, 1885, Waterloo, Iowa]

DIED. — Brief mention was made last week of the death of Nicholas Pott, which occurred on Easter Sunday.

Deceased was born in Bittburgh, Prussia, June 17, 1817*. He came to America in 1868 and located at Gilbertsville, in this county, where his oldest son had located two years previous. Six weeks after his arrival, this son died. Mr. Pott lived at Gilbertsville for about two years and then moved to a farm four miles north of Independence.

Two years afterwards his wife died and two months from that time a son, 22 years old, accidentally shot and killed himself while out hunting. Six months after his wife's death he found that her sister, whom they had not been able to get any trace of for 20 years, although they had often advertised for her, was living in Missouri.

He went to visit her and, 12 years ago, be came to Waterloo to live with his children, Peter Pott and Mrs. D. Witry. He was taken sick with pneumonia only about a week before his death and for 26 hours before his final dissolution he was paralysed.

He was the father of ten children, only four of whom are now living, Mrs. Mary Heck, living in Missouri, Nicholas Pott, Jr., in Dakota, and Mrs. Witry and Peter Pott in this city.

Deceased, through his long and eventful life, was a devout Catholic and the funeral was held on Tuesday of last week, at Gilbertville, Rev. Father Nichols officiating.
