Edwin F. Close, of 2575 W. 3rd St., died at Schoitz Memorial Hospital about midnight Tuesday.

He was born in Belgrade, Neb. on March 5, 1910, the son of Albert James and Addie Hasbrook Close. He moved to Iowa shortly after birth and had lived in Iowa most of his life.

He was employed at the Rath past 15 married Packing Co. for the past 15 years. In 1938 he married Beatrice Corwin of Lancaster, Mo. He served overseas in World War II. Mr. Close was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church.

Surviving are his widow and one daughter, Susan, at home; his mother, Mrs. Abbie Close of 2575 W. 3rd St.; two brothers, Orville Close or 115 Norton St. in Waterloo; Robert Close of Waverly; six sisters, Mrs. Lucille Hilger of Waverly; Mrs. Alberta Redding of 226 Hartman St.; Mrs. Arlene Foreman of Crescent City, Calif.; Mrs. Doris Smith of 1209 Downing St.; Mrs. Beverly Bengston of Washburn; and Mrs. Mary Joan Schmidt of 3200 W. 9th St.

He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services are pending at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home.
