WATERLOO — Wm. J. R. Porter, 56, of Waterloo, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at home of heart failure.

He was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Battle Creek, Mich., son of Walter Stanley and Sarah Susan Armstrong Porter. He married Eunice Mae Mueller on Aue 29, 1980, in Waterloo.

Mr. Porter was an assembly line worker at John Deere for 27 years, retiring in 1999. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Dominican Republic conflict during the Vietnam era.

Survived by his wife; two sons, William Sean of North Liberty and Joseph Charles of Waterloo; his mother of Waterloo; two brothers, Mike of Virginia Beach, Va., and Pat of Waterloo; and three sisters, Amie Noverr of Anchorage, Alaska, Louise Youngblut of Gilbertville and Teresa Corcoran of Fairbank.

Preceded in death by his father, and an infant sister, Sarah Bridget.

Memorial services: were 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with inurnment in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. His body was cremated. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Allen Hospital.
