WATERLOO — Clarence Albert Kayser, 83, of 155 E. San Maman Drive, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born May 15, 1917, in Independence, son of Nicholas and Eva Schuler Kayser. He married Vernetta E. Kuehl on May 13, 1940, in Independence. Mr. Kayser was a machinist at John Deere for 40 years, retiring in 1970.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Michael, Steven and James, all of Waterloo, and Robert of Davenport; two daughters, Susan Scally of Rock Island, Ill., and Julie Carter of Waterloo; and 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Clarence Albert; two brothers, Ralph and Walter; and two sisters, Hazel Schuck and Mable Beavers.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to the Kidney Foundation or Columbus High School.
