GILBERTVILLE — Gerald C. “Jerry” Delagardelle, 88, of Gilbertville died at home Friday, Aug. 9, 2013.

He was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Waterloo, son of Joseph and Margaret Schmitz Delagardelle. He married Rosemary Metcalf on June 4, 1947, in Gilbertville.

He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterloo in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later attended Michigan State University. Mr. Delagardelle spent 46 years in the family feed business, Gilbertville Milling Co., retiring in 1988. During that time he served as director and treasurer of the Iowa Grain and Feed Association and on the board of directors for United Suppliers Inc.

He also was a member and past commander of American Legion Nugent-Demuth Post 714 of Gilbertville, past county commander of Black Hawk County American Legion and on the Hawkeye Tech board of directors. He was the financial secretary for the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 1099 for many years, and was on the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Board. He also became a sales representative for Black Hawk Memorial Co. He was a Mended Heart volunteer for 18 years and served Meals on Wheels.

Survived by his wife; three sons: Jerry (Kayse) of Hawkeye, George (Jody) of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and Glen (Mary) of La Porte City; five daughters: Peggy (Pat) Weber of Elk Run Heights, Nancy (Joe) Meany of Dysart, Patty Delagardelle of Washburn, Mary (Dan) McMahon of Raymond and Chris (Mark) Kennedy of Waterloo; a son- in- law, Dan Tisue of Madison, Wis.; 27 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat- grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Westemeier of Waterloo and Mary Vogel of Gilbertville; and a sister-in-law, Kay Delagardelle of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Tom; a daughter, Sue Tisue; two brothers, Lloyd and Roy; a sister, Bernice (Louis) Schmitz; and a grandson, Seth Delagardelle.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth Post 714. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
