WATERLOO — James “Dean” McClure, 88, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born March 10, 1925, in Red Hartville, Mo., son of James and Hulda Ipock McClure. He married Marilynn Welch on Jan. 28, 1950, in Salisbury, Mo. She preceded him in death.

Mr. McClure graduated from Seymour High, Seymour, Mo., in 1942, then served in the U.S. Navy. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in agricultural education and a master’s degree in industrial arts. He was a plant manager of a feed mill in Missouri for many years. He also worked as an industrial arts and electronics teacher in Waterloo schools for 17 years.

Survived by a daughter, Shawn (Mark) Marken of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Steven McClure and Abby (Steve) Pasker; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; an infant grandson, Curtis Marken; and a sister, Helen Welch.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church, preceded by an hour of visitation. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Garden of Memories Cemetery, with military rites by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to charity of donor’s choice.

Dean enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping and visiting with friends and family.
