Mercedes Constance Hoeppner, 96, of Hudson, died at home Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

She was born July 10, 1917, in Perry Township, near Traer, daughter of Joseph and Emma Vochoska Kostlan. She married Elmer Hoeppner on Jan. 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1984.

Mrs. Hoeppner graduated from Traer High School and received her teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in several one-room country schools before her marriage, then farmed with her husband at Hudson, she worked at Craft Insurance in Hudson and was a substitute teacher with Waterloo Community Schools.

Survived by two daughters, Roxine (Mike) Hild of LaPorte City and Sherry (Mike Crawford) Hoeppner of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Peterson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Kostlan and James Kostlan; and a sister, Winona Weber.

The family is planning a memorial service. Overton Funeral Home, Traer, is assisting the family.

A memorial fund is being established.
