Walter M. Thornton, 51, Route 1, Cedar Falls, died at St. Francis Hospital at 9:25 a. m. Sunday of hernia and obstructions.

Surviving are the widow, the former Louise Hayes, whom he married at Blessing, la., on Feb. 5, 1920; four sons, three daughters, and several brothers and sisters. The children are Thomas, Fort Sill, Okla.; Leo, a naval air cadet at St. Mary's, California, and Walter, jr., Helen, Theresa, Francis and Rosemarie, all at home. Brothers include Dr. T. F. Thornton, Waterloo; Edmund, Ackley. la.; Roy, Buckingham, and a half-brother. Dr. James Thornton of Livermore, Cal. Sisters are Mrs. John Cavanaugh, Waterloo; Mrs. Joe Greany and Mrs. Ed O'Connor, both of Reinbeck. la.; Mrs. Walter Stimpson, Fort Madison, la.; Mrs. John Byrne, Dubuque; Sister Mary Honorius, Iowa City, la.; Sister Mary Saint Luella, Davenport, la.; Sister Mary Saint Leona, St. Louis. Mo., and a half-sister, Ella Thornton, Buckingham.

The decedent had been a farmer all his life and was born at Blessing Ia., on May 17, 1892. He was a graduate of Loras College, Dubuque, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waterloo, and the Holy Name Society.

His nephew, Rev. Fr. John Thornton, of Clarion, Ia., will be celebrant at a funeral mass Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be at Blessing.
