EAGLE CENTER — Melvin William Steimel, 80, of Eagle Center, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Aug. 21, 1932, son of Leo and Clara Bauler Steimel. He married Mary Margaret Meier on Sept. 30, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilbertville.

Mr. Steimel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He and his wife farmed in Eagle Center. He also was a Dekalb dealer for almost 30 years and was a member of Gilbertville American Legion.

Survived by his wife; seven daughters: Peggy (Ron) Sole of Randolph, Minn., Patty (Joe) Disch of Eldridge, Judy (Gale) Holm of Bellevue, Linda (Leo) Schaefer of Waterloo, Diane (Tim) Brandhorst of Raymond, Kathy (Bob) Fischels of Dysart and Lisa Headington of Hudson; two sons, Ted (Marcia) and Leo (Leslie), both of Eagle Center; 25 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; his stepfather, Peter Napoli; two brothers, Lewis and Francis; and a grandson, Troy Brandhorst.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Eagle Center, with burial in the church cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary and from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service, all at the church. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Melvin had a love for his family, friends, baseball, playing cards and farming. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
