WATERLOO — Larry Lee Essmann, 64, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Iowa City.

He was born Sept. 8, 1948, in Waterloo, son of Charles and Maxine Hughs Essmann. He married Ronnie Schoenhut in February 2006.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. For more than 25 years, Larry served as an officer for the Bremer County Sheriff Department and then the Waverly Police Department.

Survived by his spouse, Ronnie; his children, Adrienne Essmann of Blencoe and Jebediah Essmann of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Ravi Essmann; his father, Charles Essmann of Cedar Falls; a brother, Charles (Trudy) Essmann, Jr. of Denver; the children’s mother, Bonny Hall of Blencoe; and other extended family members.

Preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Hughs.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with military honors. Visitation for two hours before servies Thursday at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
