WATERLOO — Paul Farmer, 96, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born March 12, 1917, in Spirit Lake, son of William and Lena Petersen Farmer. He married Permilla “Pam” Lienemann on Sept. 29, 1940, Spencer. She died February 28, 2009.

He graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1935. Mr. Farmer served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII, and was a plant engineer for Northwestern Bell Telephone for 33 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Elks, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge (Spirit Lake).

Survived by two sons, Royce (Kathy) of Pella and Thomas (Karen) of Oelwein; four grandchildren, Paul D. (Melinda) Farmer of Cedar Falls, Catherine (Jesse) White of Charles City, Sara (Dave) Anderson of Johnston and Matthew (Jenna) Farmer of Kansas City; eight great-grandchildren, Reece, Pierce and Grace Anderson, Braeden and Nolan Farmer, Andrew and Elise White and Brennan Farmer; and his sister Lowene (Lloyd) Rezac of Windom, Minn.

He was preceded in death by: his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lakeview Lodge of Friendship Village, preceded by family burial in Waterloo Cemetery, with flag presentation by American Legion Post No. 138 and VFW Post No. 1623. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Friendship Village Auxiliary, Westminster Presbyterian Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
