CEDAR FALLS — Bernhard E. Jacobson, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.

He was born June 15, 1919, in Palisade, Minn., son of Emil and Fanny Carlson Jacobson. He married Mary Cain Campbell on Aug. 25, 1944, in Cedar Falls. She died Dec. 3, 1995.

Mr. Jacobson graduated from high school in Northfield, Minn., in 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was chief engineer with Universal Industries, retiring in 1984.

Survived by a daughter, Mary Rittgers of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Mark (Sarah) Rittgers of Front Royal, Va.; two granddaughters, Nichole and Megan Rittgers; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a son, Mark; three sisters, Lillian Lopez, Astrid Hatfield and Bernice Robare; and a brother in infancy, Carl.

Services: burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Fairfield Township Cemetery, rural New Hartford, followed by memorial services at 2 p.m. at NewAldaya Lifescapes Chapel, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service.

Bernhard was an avid reader of history, science, math and religion. For many years, he and his wife spent several weeks in the Jackson Hole, Wyo., area where he hiked, climbed Grand Teton and Mount Moran and rode horses.
