STOUGHTON, WISCONSIN — Alona Paydon passed away peacefully but unexpectedly in her sleep on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at age 55. She was born in Waterloo on March 13, 1958, the daughter of Allen Wayne and Beverly Mae Aebersold. She was united in marriage for 32 years to Robert W. Paydon in an outdoor ceremony on June 21, 1981, in Geneseo Township.

Alona. My love, once to be held in my arms as a physical being — now forever carried in my heart, my thoughts, my dreams ... my memories. The actual meaning of the name is Hebrew for “Oak Tree.” Alona, my soul mate was as strong as an oak with her will to be the absolute best at all she took on. She was a true renaissance woman of our generation, living as a free spirit and was always ready to explore new places. An extremely emotional and passionate woman, she loved “Her Boys” and taught them to be kind; she loved animals, even those who were strays; she loved her husband’s red curly hair, and she loved her family and friends from all corners of the world. Alona was forever rooting for the underdog. Her time in the classroom with thousands of students over the course of her 17-year career is a testament to all she believed in and stood for. Knowing Alona meant you knew she loved dancing, music, her art, cooking, and the love of a person’s “story.” She encouraged her students to be lifelong learners and modeled the need for all to achieve their potential. Being one with nature, she loved to swim, snorkel and kayak. Alona, you will forever live in all the beings you have touched.

Alona’s last wish was to be released to the four winds and seas.

Alona will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Bob; two sons, Evan Forrest (significant other, Maggie Reid) of Milwaukee, and Sequoia Austin (significant other, Jennifer Edison) of Stoughton; her mother, Beverly Aebersold of Wellston, Mich.; uncle Stanley Aebersold of Lexington, Ky.; brother Chilton Brook Shafer of Wellston; sister Kathaleen Graham of Waterloo; and her best friend Roberta Jane of Mahtomedi, Minn. She is further survived and loved by 48 nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and students.

She was preceded in death by her father, Allen; brother Michael Aebersold; and sister Rosemary Siems.

A Celebration of Alona’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Stoughton United Methodist Church, 525 Lincoln Ave., Stoughton. The Rev. Dr. Dawn Jeffers Ramstad will officiate. Family will greet friends after 11 a.m. until the time of service. A light lunch will follow at church.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made payable to the Alona Paydon Memorial Fund, c/o McFarland State Bank, P.O. Box 427, Stoughton, WI 53589
