Funeral services for EN2/C William E. Miller, USN, 24, of Grants Pass, Oregon, are being planned for Thursday afternoon at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel, pending the arrival of his body here Tuesday night.

Miller died at 7:25 p.m. last Sunday at Rogue Valley Hospital, Medford, Ore., of a gunshot wound in the abdomen. It has not been determined if the wound was accidental or self-inflicted. The incident occurred in the home of Miller's brother-in-law.

Miller was born in Roland, Iowa, on Feb. 10, 1940, the son of George E. and Elizabeth Watts Miller. He moved to Waterloo in 1942 and graduated from East High School in 1958 after which he enlisted in the Navy.

He was assigned to the USS Talledega, based at Long Beach, Calif. He married Patricia March on August 21, 1961, in Grants Pass, Ore. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church here before entering the service.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. R. H. McDowell, of Roland; his widow, a son, William E., Jr., 2; and a daughter, Kelly, 1; a brother, Joseph of Ames; and two sisters, Mary Miller, of Ames; and Mrs. Darrell Willwerth, of Vinton.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1959.

Friends may call at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel after noon Wednesday.

Funeral services for EN2C William E. Miller, 24, of Grants Pass. Ore., a former resident, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel. The Rev. Charles J. Gunnell, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, will officiate, with burial in the Midwest Garden of Memories. Military services will be conducted by the United States Naval Reserve station keepers, the United States Navy recruiting office and the United States Naval Reserve Service Division 90-60M, all of Waterloo. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Wednesday. Engineman Miller died April 12 at Medford, Ore., of a gunshot wound.
