OLD RESIDENT GONE

Death of Grandma Whipkey in Orange Township

In the death of Grandma Whipkey at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home in Orange township, Blackhawk County loses one of its oldest residents.

Mary Spohr was born in Somerset County, Penn., December 21, 1811. Her marriage to Abraham Whipkey occurred September 15, 1844. They moved to Dixon, Ill., in March, 1861, and came from there to Waterloo in March four years later, and have resided in the county ever since.

Five children survive her; J. W., S. A., Lidia*, and Mrs. D. Snyder, all of Blackhawk county, and Frank Whipkey, of Carleton, Neb.

Mrs. Whipkey had been in poor health for several years. Five weeks ago, it will be remembered, she had the misfortune to fall and break her hip, and the immediate cause of her death were the effects of this accident.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from the German Baptist Church in Orange.
