CEDAR FALLS - Dr. David M. Hansen, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Western Home Communities Martin Center of complications from Alzheimer's.

He was born May 3, 1926, in Cedar Falls, son of Hans Peter and Marjorie Mae Miller Hansen. He married Lois M. Temple July 1, 1950, at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II following graduation from Cedar Falls High School in 1944. He received his BA degree from Stanford University in California in 1950 and his doctorate from Washington University Medical School, St. Louis, in 1954.

Dr. Hansen practiced internal medicine for a year in St. Louis before returning to Cedar Falls where he practiced from 1959 until his retirement in 1991. At one time he also served as chief of staff at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of the Cedar Falls Rotary Club, Arcturus Club, and former board member of Western Home.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Thomas T. (Susan) of Raleigh, N.C., Dr. Mark D. (Stacy) of Muscatine, Dr. James P. (Donnarae) of San Francisco and Douglas E. (Kimberly Britts) of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren, Jesse, Alex, Carissa and Zoe Anne Hansen, Catherine (Jason) Hamilton, Bradley, Christina, Ashley and Steven Hansen, Taylor and Julia Hansen and Hans and Ian Hansen; a brother, John E. (Martha) of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Hansen of New Hampton.

Preceded in death by a brother, Charles A.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with inurnment in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church, the Alzheimer's Association, Sartori Memorial Hospital or Western Home Communities.
